            How Do Wheels Work?

By building the mechanical leverage and multiplying the force your vehicle's tires need to spin. They accomplish this by turning on axles. This is the case whether you drive a car like Buick LaCrosse, a truck such as RAM 1500, or something in between.

            What are Wheels Made of?

Usually, if not steel, then an alloy of aluminum and other metals (like iron, zinc, copper, silica, or magnesium). Some are even comprised of filamentous crystalline polymers like graphite fiber/carbon fiber. SUVs and vans like Chevy Tahoe and Chrysler Pacifica, respectively, for instance, use the former most of the time. The latter, you more often see on sports cars -- Dodge Challenger, for instance.

What Wheel Sizes and Styles are Available?

Sizes range from as few as 15 inches or so to 20 inches or more, and they're measured in diameters. Styles can be determined by everything from single-, twin-, or multi-spoke status to climate and/or weather type. The smaller the car, like Cadillac CT4, for example, the smaller the wheel diameter. Larger pickups, like GMC Sierra 1500, generally have larger wheels. The logic follows for larger SUVs and vans.

What's Most Important When Ordering Wheels Online?

Three things. One is to get the right type for your make and model. The second is to get the right size for it. The third is to install them properly.

How Do I Install Wheels on My Vehicle?

That answer is straightforward: follow the instructions from your OEM. You can find them either in your owner's documentation or in the literature that came with your purchase. Check out an automotive research authority like It Still Runs for what you should do generally; it's the same for most vehicles, from the Lincoln Town Car to the Jeep Gladiator. Whatever wheels you end up putting on your ride, be sure to choose genuine OEM, not aftermarket.

Why Buy OEM Wheels vs. Aftermarket Wheels?

Your brand manufactures them to fit its models perfectly. That fitment guarantee, you won't necessarily get from off-brands. Compatibility is, in fact, so important that it determines proper wheel alignment, reliable acceleration and braking, and even speedometer calibration. These things are exceptionally important for, say, Ford F-150, where dependable overall handling is paramount.
