The GMC Jimmy was introduced in 1970 by the GMC division of General Motors following the release of the Chevrolet Blazer. Both SUVs were intended to compete with the likes of the Ford Bronco and the Jeep Wagoneer. The GMC Jimmy was produced either as a compact or midsize SUV. And introduced in 1983, the Jimmy S15 would be marketed alongside the Chevrolet S10 Blazer. The “S15” and “S10” designations would later be dropped for both models in the early 90s. Although GM’s sibling SUV lineup of the Blazer and Jimmy ended in 2005, the Blazer nameplate made a comeback for the 2019 model year.

With the 2001 GMC Jimmy, trim options included the base SLS, SLE, SLT, Diamond Edition, and the Diamond Edition Special. You could also choose from either a rear-wheel drive (RWD) or four-wheel drive (4WD) configuration. The 2001 GMC Jimmy was powered by a 4.3-liter V6 engine that produced 190 hp and 250 pound-feet of torque. While the powertrain’s output was solid, gas mileage left a lot to be desired with 14 mpg city, 18 mpg highway, and 15 mpg combined.
