The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is GM’s iconic pickup truck. It began production in 1999, taking over Chevy’s C/K lineup. In Mexico, it’s marketed as the Chevrolet Cheyenne. One of the best-selling pickup trucks in the world, the Silverado 1500 holds its own against rivals Ford F-150 and Dodge Ram. The Silverado constantly tops 500,000 units in annual sales and has sold 600,000 to 700,000 units in peak years.

The 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 was offered in 11 trim options. The LS trim came in seven styles while the LT trim had four. Engine power peaked at 270 hp with a 5.3-liter V8. Max towing capacity for the 1999 Silverado was 7,000 pounds while max payload was 1,779 pounds. Gas mileage was average across trims but was best with the LS variant’s 4.3-liter V8 engine at 17 mpg combined.

For the 2024 model year, a total of 37 trim options are offered in the US for the Silverado 1500. Starting at $37,445, the base model 2WD regular cab is equipped with a 2.7-liter I4 engine. Peak power for the base engine is 310 hp and max torque is 430 pound-feet. For the high-trim 4WD High Country, a 5.3-liter V8 is offered, boosting power to 355 hp and torque to 383 pound-feet. The highest trim has nearly doubled the 1999 model’s towing capacity to 13,100 pounds.
