The Chevrolet Corvette is the iconic two-door sports car marketed by General Motors since 1953. Spanning eight model generations from the C1 to the C8, the Chevy Corvette has been sold as either a coupe or convertible. GM started offering coupe-style Corvettes in the second model generation (C2) beginning in 1963.
The Corvette predated the arrival of its competitors the Ford Thunderbird, Studebaker Speedster, and Chrysler C-300, which all came out in 1955. In the Corvette’s first three years, it came with a 3.9-liter Blue Flame I6 engine rated at 150 hp. The 1955 Corvette was also offered with a 4.34-liter V8 engine option, improving acceleration by three seconds. Being a highly popular sports car, production by GM of the Corvette skyrocketed from its debut of 300 units to a peak of 38,762 units in 1969. Over 50,000 Corvettes were sold both in the 1979 and 1984 releases. To date, more than 1.8 million Corvettes have been sold.
The 2024 Chevy Corvette belongs to the eighth generation (C8), which started in 2020. It starts selling for $69,995, which gets you the Corvette Stingray Coupe 1LT. The engine is a 6.2-liter pushrod V8, maxing out at 490 hp and 470 pound-feet of torque. A Z51 performance package is offered, boosting output to 495 hp. The base 1LT coupe comes with 19-inch front and 20-inch rear Bright Silver-painted aluminum wheels. Upgrading to the 2LT adds several features, such as a head-up display, wireless charging, heated and ventilated seats, blind-spot monitoring, and much more.
